There is a little museum with an onsite workshop for the traditional craft of painting silk cloth and patterning kimono. It was a surprising encounter and the kimonos that were quietly displayed on holders were breathtaking. For me almost coming to life with different characters.

Examples of Kimonos

I was attracted by these fabrics with their beautiful designes, colours and textures. And oddly, at the same time I wondered what kind of person would have worn these? How would they have reacted when seeing them for the first time? So much work has gone into these garments. And the idea of a walking, moving image and evocation does not seem all that strange anymore.
